Charity 2025 – Supporting the RNLI
At the 2025 Members Meeting, Tamar District Association (TDA) proudly selected the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as our official charity for the season. The RNLI is a vital charity dedicated to saving lives at sea, operating lifeboat stations and providing lifeguard services across the UK and Ireland.
This year marks the RNLI's 200th anniversary, a testament to their enduring commitment and the bravery of their volunteers. Their philosophy has remained consistent: to provide lifesaving services using volunteers wherever possible, funded primarily by kind donations. In 2025, the RNLI continues to face challenges, including increased demand due to more staycations and financial pressures.
In our region, the RNLI maintains several key lifeboat stations, including:
Plymouth Lifeboat Station – Located in Millbay Marina Village, this station operates:
Severn Class All-Weather Lifeboat – Designed for long-range rescues in severe weather.
Atlantic 85 Inshore Lifeboat – Suited for rapid response and close-to-shore operations.
Appledore Lifeboat Station – Serving the North Devon coast with dedicated rescue services.
Looe Lifeboat Station – Providing emergency response along the Cornish coastline.
Fowey Lifeboat Station – Ensuring maritime safety in mid-Cornwall.
Falmouth Lifeboat Station – One of the busiest in the region, covering extensive waters.
These stations rely on highly trained volunteers, ready 24/7 to respond to emergencies and protect those in need.
Throughout 2025, TDA will be raising funds for the RNLI through events, raffles, and donations. We encourage all members to take part and help support this essential charity.
