Tamar DA’s 21st Birthday Meet – Mayday Bank Holiday 1998
Back in 1998, Tamar DA marked its 21st birthday in true style over the Mayday Bank Holiday at Newnham Park, Plymouth. With over 70 units on-site and a marquee buzzing with members, it was a weekend filled with fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
The weekend was packed with activities and entertainment for all ages. During the day, we enjoyed fun games and sports, and a special highlight was a visit from a fire engine! Children (and some enthusiastic adults!) got the chance to dress up in fire uniforms, try out the hoses, and even take a ride in the engine. Of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without a birthday tea – and plenty of cake!
A Night to Remember – Music Hall Variety Show
Saturday evening saw our talented members put on a spectacular ‘Music Hall Variety Show.’ The entertainment included Cancan Girls, a hilarious double act by past Chairman Chris and Linda, and a fantastic tribute to Flanagan and Allen by Jon Bradley and Allan Major. Jon’s vocal performance had the audience in stitches as he cheekily revealed a pair of Union Jack shorts in the best possible taste! Throughout the night, Robbie’s comedic “deliveries” to the marquee kept the laughs coming, all tied together by our brilliant compere, Andy. The show finished with a classic sing-along to well-loved Music Hall tunes, dancing, and a celebratory balloon drop.
The fun didn’t stop there! Friday and Sunday evenings saw members hitting the dance floor to the sounds of “Cavaliers” and “Walter Shortage and the Hosepipe Band.” It was a truly special weekend, celebrating our DA’s milestone with friends, family, and fantastic entertainment.
Looking Ahead – Tamar DA’s 50th Birthday in 2027!
As we look back on these cherished moments, we’re also looking forward to the future! In 2027, Tamar DA will be celebrating its 50th birthday, and we can’t wait to make it just as memorable. Stay tuned for more details.
